It was a much quieter weekend in terms of Cru involvement in road racing than of late, but the options were there all the same. On a weekend when training runs had to be re-organised because of the Papal visit, there were a decent number of races outside the capital on offer, but we had representatives in only a smattering of them, as many of us prepare for later races, particularly next weekend's Frank Duffy 10 miler. The week's report effectively started on Thursday evening with the Portmarnock 5k, one of two races being run that day that also included a 5 mile event. Philip Matthews was our sole representative in a race that took in beach as well as road. In a field of nearly 200 runners, Philip placed 40th in a time of 22:33 as he works his way back towards full fitness. Over the weekend, we had two runners at least in the Tullamore Half marathon on Saturday. Enda Currid, a recent recruit who is in full marathon training, placed 58th in a field exceeding 800 and a time of 1:23:42 and he was followed home by Mary Dolan who took 506th spot overall, 122nd female finisher, in 1:56:46. On Sunday Dee Ni Chearbhaill and her husband Sean Murphy drove down to Wexford to take part in the Oylegate Half marathon, organised by Slaney Olympic. Dee had intended simply to run the race as a progression training run, but in the event, she went on to win it in a time of 1:40:43, placing 36th overall in a field of 118. For the record, Sean came home in 9th place in 1:20:35. Further afield, Luke Haran ran in a race in Berlin of unusual distance, 10.5k, finishing in a time of 44:39. Although, we did not have many races to report on, there was as usual a good showing in the parkruns. Podium places went to Kris Ryan in a parkrun in Mudgeeraba in Austrlai, where she placed 2nd (9th overall) in a field of 108 and in a time of 22:08. Meanwhile, Sarah Lyons was a first finisher in Westport. Coming home also in a time of 22:08 and placing 13th overall, Sarah was followed by Phelim Murray who took 14th spot just behind in 22:13. Alma Hanevy was another first finisher (8th overall) in Brickfields. Alma’s time was 21:53 and she followed Joe Walsh, the two of them in marathon training, who took 2nd place in 19:06. Matt Cranley recorded a father and daughter PB in Father Collins by placing 2nd with his buggy in 19:25, whilst Emma Flynn ran in Cabinteely and taking 3rd place (31st overall) in a time of 24:03. 7 of our members took part in St. Anne’s, led home by Peter O’Toole in 3rd place (17:19) and he was followed by Tim O’Donnell (22nd in 19:46), Kieran Finucane (33rd in 20:10), Aoife Quinn (137th overall, 18th woman home, in 23:52), Denis Murphy who like Aoife provided pacing support (139th in 23:55), Colm Kernan (211th in 25:41) and Darina Scully (229th overall, 47th woman, in 26:11). Gillian Errity ran in Ardgillan, taking 8th spot (42nd overall) in 26:18, whilst Jocelyn Dufetel came home in 14th place in Bere Island in a time of 25:20. Patrick Carthy crossed the finishing line in Mullingar in 4th place in a time of 20:06, whilst Lisa Shine ran Ballincollig and came home in 30:11 (205th overall, 60th female) and then in Shanganagh Joe Dunne took 19th spot in 21:39, followed by Orlaith de Burca in 74th place overall (13th female) in 26:51. Kevin Flynn mopped up the backmarkers in Porterstown coming home in 48:16 (127th). Lastly, our largest turnout was in Poolbeg where we fielded 10 runners. First home was John Thuillier in 4th place (19:06), followed by David O’Donnell (15th in 20:51), Fiona Bane (35th overall, 3rd female finisher, in 23:05), Zalan Kovacs (37th in 23:23), John McQuaid (45th in 24:02), Gillian Curran (72nd overall, 14th female, in 26:12), Mairead Cashman (102nd overall, 30th female, in 29:05), Don Anderton (122nd in 32:18), Ciara McElligott (127th overall, 47th female, in 34:10) and Mairin Shine (130th overall, 50th female, in 34:58). Indeed, the teams were packed with new faces and also some older ones in new, less familiar, roles! Without some of our more usual performers it was always going to be a challenge, but the two teams we fielded did the club proud and under the expert leadership of Gary Park the men’s team eventually finished in 7th place in the premier division (5th club, given that 2 of the teams were county-based) and under that of Lisa Shine and Susan Walsh, the women finishing in 4th place in division one, only 3 points off 2nd place, the top 3 teams all being Ulster-based. On the women’s side there were major contributions from Lisa, Alix Hughes, Niamh Aspell, Grainne Regan, Phillipa Conway, Katie Rose Barry, Mary Horgan, Orla Ni Mhuicheartaigh, Nadine Deehan and Ines Fetahovic, with six 2nd place and two 3rd place finishes among the 12 events in which we scored. The men took part in 18 events recording one win (Matt Behan in the 110m hurdles), one 2nd place and five 3rd place finishes. It’s an excellent reflection of likely future success given there were so many new faces participating. Sam Bolger, Patrick Gilceava, John Nugent, Jonny Bell, Ciaran Donnelly, James Kelly, Fearghal O’Hare, Garret Dunne, Oisin Taylor, Matt Behan, Brian Murphy (56lb weight for distance!), Bob Hyne, all did their bit. The previous day, Tullamore also played host to the National Masters Track and Field Championships with its record turnout. Again, we had quite a decent showing from the club. John O’Loughlin took silver in the M50 100m in 12.45, whilst Liam Lyster won gold in the same event for M60 (14.09). Donal Swift placed 6th M65 in his race in a time of 17.44. Michael Killilea won the silver medal in the 5k walk as an M45 (32:17.29), whilst Liam also went on to win silver in the 200m (M60) in a time of 29.57. Denis Murphy, in his last outing for the club before he moves to Raheny, recorded a PB of 2:27.96 in taking 4th place in the 800m (M55 category) and 5th in the 1500m in 5:21.86, whilst another M55, John Healy, won bronze in the same event in a time of 5:01.18. Both Jonathan Miller and John O’Loughlin distinguished themselves with a win in the M35 and M50 400m in 51.24 and 57.81, respectively. Finally, Joe McDermott and Michael Wycherley ran in the 5000m, with Joe placing 10th as an M35 in 17:38.21 and Michael coming across the line in 6th in the M40 race in 16:44.67. There was at least one race in the hills last week in which Crusaders took part. In the Mountain Rescue Benefit 8k that was run around Paddock Hill near Laragh in Co. Wicklow, Warren Swords (who is in training for the upcoming UTMB in the Alps) took 7th spot in a field of 91 in a time of 34:39. On a course of moderate difficulty with a 250m climb, Gavan Doherty came home in 14th place in 37:25, followed by Anthony O’Reilly (22nd in 38:19) and Berndt Heim (81st in 54:41). To some extent this report has been delayed whilst waiting for certain road racing results. In particular, the Longford Marathon 5k and half marathon results took a while but it can be confirmed that Rachael Yorke, our sole entrant in the 5k placed 2nd (12th overall in a field of 166) in a time of 21:27, less than 30 secs behind the winner of the women's race and in the half which saw a field in excess of 370, Pat Quill placed 44th in 1:34:12 and Miriam Logan, in training for Berlin, crossed the line in 119th place overall (18th female finisher) in a time of 1:47:10. It's not clear how the marathon relay teams fared but from the photos it is possible we may have finished with more than one team on the podium. The winner and runner up of the Longford marathon were the old, but friendly, protagonists, Gary O’Hanlon and Freddy Sittuk. For a while, one of our runners, Niall Murphy, was lying in 4th place until he began to suffer a bit in the legs after 20k or so, eventually coming across the line in 20th place in a field of 180, but at least with a major PB improvement to 3:03:54 and a qualifying time for Boston, which had been his principal aim. Our other runner, Gian Piero Allerta, also went through a tough patch in the 2nd half, eventually placing 90th in 3:53:16. Also, over the weekend we had runners in the St Coca’s 10 mile race in Kilcock. In a field of nearly 500 Bob Manson placed 108th in 68:53, followed home by Kate Murray in 192nd spot (32nd female) in 77:21. Another of our members, possibly a newcomer, Kevin Lambe, ran 23:43 for 131st place in the 317-strong field in the Castlepollard 5k held in Co. Westmeath. We had at least one participant in the Dun Laoghaire Half Ironman on Sunday. Kiera Roche took part in the relay, participating in the run with family members. Elsewhere, there was news from Denmark, the UK, Switzerland and Canada. In Copenhagen Andrea Talpo took part in the full Ironman there, placing 286th in a field of 2,654. Of note was Andrea’s marathon which took him only 3:15:25 and helped him to an overall excellent total of 10:05:50. In Hampshire in the UK over the weekend Leo Lundy ran in a 54k ultra (the Hangman), but he got lost so ended up running 57k in total. Even this week he’s found time to put in another ultra effort, this time in Kent. It’s also great to report that Ian Kinsella is continuing his successful running ways with a 2nd place finish in the Iroquois Trail Test 34k in the Crawford Lake conservation area outside Toronto. Lastly, in Lausanne, Donnacha McCarthy and his guide Dave Tilly came home in 6th place in the World Cup triathlon there at the weekend. As usual, there were some good results emerging from Saturday’s parkruns. In Poolbeg we had both first finishers, with Andrej Kujikis producing an excellent time of 18:11 and Fiona Bane, equally on good form, running 23:16 to place 33rd overall. They were joined by John Thuillier whose times will continue to drop as he gets back into running (4th in 19:08), Marius McNicholas (17th in 21:28), Russell Murphy (20th in 21:41), newcomer John McQuaid (55th in 24:45) and Jennifer Armstrong (93rd overall, 22nd woman, in 30:20). Elsewhere, Luke Davis took 7th spot in Marlay in 19:07, followed by Ailsa Berkeley (192nd overall, 28th woman, in 26:15), whilst Emma O’Mahony also came in 7th (37th overall) in Enniskillen in 26:42. In St. Anne’s Jonathan Claridge came across the line in 8th place (18:09), followed by Peter O’Toole (20th in 19:42), Matt Cranley and daughter (22nd in 19:45), Ronan Reilly (29th in 20:06) and Lorraine Fitzsimons (289th overall, 88th woman, in 29:04). Further afield, Kris Ryan ran 22:29 in the 147-strong field in Paradise Point, Australia to take 4th place (20th overall), whilst Aidan Hudner ran 22:56 to place 83rd in the 346-strong field in Victoria Park, Glasgow. Darina Scully took 160th spot overall (29th woman) in 27:31 in Malahide, whilst Aoife Quinn placed 4th in Fairview (24th overall) with a time of 26:46. Neil Brown also placed 4th in Tolka Valley (21:58), followed by Diarmuid Byrne (16th in 26:13) and Maria Pertl (17th overall, 7th woman, in 26:14). Lisa Shine placed 110th overall (37th woman) in 33:50 in Longford, just behind Orlaith de Burca (109th overall, 36th woman, in 33:48) and, finally, David Carter crossed the finishing line in 6th place in Cabinteely (21:14), followed by Olwyn Dunne (94th overall, 25th female finisher, in 30:05), Mairin Shine (130th overall, 43rd female, in 36:01) and Fiona Shine (131st overall, 44th female, in 36:02). In a huge field on a really tough course involving several hills, we enjoyed some success on Sunday in the national half marathon championships that were incorporated into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Half marathon with a field in excess of 5,700 finishers. There was a bit of drizzle and the roads were somewhat slippery as a consequence. If it wasn’t a PB course beforehand, the weather conditions certainly ensured it remained that way. At least 19 Crusaders finished the race with the distinction of a gold medal for Alma Hanevy in her F35 age category and a senior silver medal for the team of Alma, Katie McElroy and Ruth Dwyer. It was pointed out that team silver is better than gold at times since it preserves eligibility for novice and intermediate racing! Well done to the girls. Kieran Little was first across the line for the club in 28th place (in the Rock ’n’ Roll) in a super time of 77:21, followed by Declan Ryan, the visually-impaired runner from Thurles who trains with us (60th in 80:48). They were followed by Joe Walsh who had an excellent run to place 94th in 84:27 and by Tim Francony who ran 86:13 for his 132nd place. Karl Walsh (203rd in 89:26) was next, followed closely by Alma (208th overall, 14th female finisher), in 89:33. Patrick Needham took 299th place in 94:07, followed by James Cahill (393rd in 96:17), Katie (468th overall in 97:50), Gordon Celender (508th in 98:48) and Luke Haran just under the 100 minutes wire (565th in 99:59). Our last man across the line was Joe O’Reilly (2,564th in 2:04:27) among a mix of Cru women (whose gender places are difficult to determine): As 3rd scorer in the team, Ruth came home in 1:47:23 (1,011th overall), followed by Maria Kennedy who added the race to a long run as part of her marathon training and so didn’t really race the course (1,210th overall in 1:50:04), Olwyn Dunne (1,238th overall, in 1:50:29), Maria Esteban (1,975th overall, in 1:58:43) both who also took the race as a training run, Janet McManus (2,489th overall, in 2:03:34), Adrienne O’Driscoll (2,872nd overall, in 2:07:52), Emilie Fournier (3,552nd overall in 2:15:18) and Iseult Ni Chuinneagain (4,395th overall in 2:27:17). The other major event of the weekend was the Cru trip to Galway to run in the 8k there (the Streets of Galway) organised by GCH. We have been going there as a group since 2013 and this trip was just as much fun as any year since then. Nearly 30 of us took part in the race this year and we were well supported around the course. One of the surprising things about the event is that each year we forget how hilly the course is, describing it to newcomers as largely flat with perhaps a little climb into Eyre Square in the first kilometre. In fact, there are several hills after that before a descent onto Salthill Strand for the last 2.5km. For most of the race the wind was in our faces until we hit the seafront. We enjoyed a wet drizzly afternoon on our arrival, but it had largely stopped by the start of the race (which started at 7 in the evening), only to return with a cloud-bursting vengeance for those unlucky enough not to have finished under 40 minutes. Still, it was dry again for the after-race celebrations (which did not disappoint) and we partied well into the early morning before embarking on our long runs on a gloriously sunny Sunday morning with but a pinch of sleep. The haul was reasonably rich too, the Cru men and women’s teams doing the club proud. The Cru women’s team of Adrienne Jordan, Catherine Thornton and Caroline Crowley took 1st place ahead of the much-fancied GCH team, whilst the men came home in 3rd place. In a substantial field of more than 2,500 runners, and behind race winner John Travers (23:56), Vinnie McGuinness led the men home in 16th place with a time of 26:40. He was followed closely by Michael Kiely (18th in 26:52) and by Rob Cross (22nd and 1st M45 in 27:11), the 3 being scorers for the men’s team. Next came Brendan Murphy (24th in 27:24) who experienced a bit of difficulty at one point but nevertheless was able to get going again, and he was followed by Tony Carter, the prodigal Geordie returning for his second running of the race since we started going in 2013 (33rd in 28:00). It was great to see Hugh Larkin, one of the organisers of the weekend, running competitively (hopefully pain free after months of difficulty) and finishing in 30:00 (78th place), followed closely by another of the organisers, club president Will Owens (83rd in 30:09). In 100th place overall and 7th female finisher, Adrienne led the Cru women home (30:52) followed by Catherine (113th overall, 8th woman, in 31:19) who was able to track her for most of the race. Indeed, Catherine enjoyed an epic sprint to the line with Eddie Nugent (114th in 31:12) in hot pursuit. James Cottle was not so much further back and had hoped to reel the two in until they increased the pace towards the end (124th and 2nd M60, in 31:31). Caroline was 3rd scorer for the women’s team and enjoyed a decent outing following injury (133rd overall, 9th woman, in 31:45), despite running much of the race with flapping shoelaces! Again, it was a bit like the Cathar castles in the Pyrenees, each runner could see a Crusader ahead as he or she traversed the course, several of us anxious not to finish behind a runner dressed from head to toe in a Spiderman costume! Behind Caroline came David Timoney, a late addition to the group, who ran well to place 139th in 32:03, followed by Kiera Roche (140th overall, 10th woman, in 32:11) who was initially nursing a sore knee. It was a lucrative day for the girls as the first 10 across the line were eligible for prizes. After Kiera came Tim O’Donnell (161st in 32:41), Orla Kennedy (214th overall, 21st woman, in 33:41) whose fiancé Peter Clinton also ran, coming in marginally ahead, Gian Piero Allerta, in a taper before next weekend’s Longford marathon (218th in 33:57), Grainne Regan (231st overall, 25th woman, in 34:08), Eanna Farrell (254th in 34:40) and Brendan Glynn (307th in 35:23). Amy McGuinness, who is expecting a baby in the next few months, ran well and ahead of expectations to finish in 35:50 (337th overall, 40th woman), followed by Sarah Lyons (486th overall, 72nd woman, in 37:23). Karl Gohery, whose last run in this race was followed less than a month later by an accident when he was knocked down running on the Dublin quays, this being only his second competitive run since then, was next in 627th place (38:31) and he was followed by Maeve Muldowney (761st overall, 143rd woman, in 39:41), Phelim Murray (771st in 40:22), another runner with injury problems, nursing a pulled hamstring, Leo Lundy (969th in 42:32) in his 2nd event of the day having run a parkrun in Dublin in the morning, and by Rebecca Fleming (1,211th overall in 44:17) enjoying a trip back from Malta, coming in with Emer Kenny (1,214th overall in 44:18). Hazel Green, who now lives in Galway, completed the Crusader representation, placing 1,319th overall in 44:45. There were other races on Sunday. The Rock ‘n’ Roll event included both 5 and 10k races. We had at least two runners in the 5k. In a field of 1,756 runners, Daniel Lowe took 5th place in a time of 18:41, followed by Zlatko Kulic who crossed the line in 22nd spot (19:34). Then newcomer Adam Flanagan, who is in marathon training, returned to his native Monaghan to run in the Monaghan Town 10 miler there, taking 11th place in a field of 365 finishers with an admirable time of 61:15. The race was won by Freddy Sittuk in 54:47. On the track Andrew Mellon ran for Ireland last week in the European Championships in the 4x400m men’s relay team but unfortunately the team failed to make it into the final. Still, it was a major honour to be selected and the team gave it their all. In the mountains there was one race on which to report. Anthony O’Reilly was our sole representative in an end of season handicap race in the mountains on the borders of Counties Dublin and Wicklow. The race took place on Kippure Mountain over difficult terrain, involving a climb of more than 300m over 9.3km. Anthony placed 21st in a field of 64 and a time of 75:40. Finally, we come to last Saturday’s parkruns. There were first finisher places for Aoife Quinn (who included the event as part of her hen party) in Bushy Park (18th overall in 22:46), Fiona Bane (10th overall, in 22:21) in Father Collins, Diarmuid Byrne in Tolka Valley (19:26) and Kris Ryan in Gainsborough Greens in Australia (8th overall in a field of 62 and a time of 22:35). Podium places were achieved by Matt Cranley (with his buggy) (3rd in 19:50) in Father Collins, Kate Murray (2nd in Bushy Park and 29th overall in 24:12) and Maria Pertl (3rd in Tolka Valley, 21st overall, in 27:13). Lisa Shine took 4th spot in Castlehaven (9th overall) in 27:30, whilst, in Poolbeg; Andrej Kujikis placed 5th in 19:22. Andrej was closely followed by the returning John Thuillier (6th in 19:26) and by David O’Donnell (20th in 20:42), Sharon Woods (42nd overall, 6th woman, in 23:36), Brian Langton (51st in 24:37), Mary Dolan (67th overall, 14th woman, in 25:44), Cliodhna O’Reilly (69th overall, 15th woman, in 25:55) and Mari Hansen (82nd overall, 20th woman, in 27:51). Mairin Shine also ran in Bushy Park, placing 119th overall, 38th female, in 32:48, whilst Emma O’Mahony ran well to place 61st overall, 6th female finisher, in 27:59 in Cabinteely. Mairead Cashman took 86th spot overall, 19th female finisher, in 29:31 in Donabate, whilst we had 3 runners in St Anne’s. Denis Murphy was first across the line in 85th in a time of 23:05, followed closely by Colm Kernan (86th in 23:10). Leo Lundy completed the trio with his first run of the day before heading to Galway (168th in 26:12). Rock n Roll Half (inc National Half marathon championships) (5710) Overall place Name Cat. Unfortunately, despite his best efforts, our national champion in the long jump failed to progress through the heats as he finished in 25th place with a best leap of 7.47m, needing to jump further than 7.70m to go through to the final. In fact, Adam jumped 7.47m twice in 3 jumps, with the other being red flagged. Despite it being quite a challenging 10K with significant climbs in the first half and a steep descent in the second, playing havoc with the quads, the DLR Bay 10k seems to go from strength to strength and this year, its 7th running, also on Bank Holiday Monday, saw a finishing field in excess of 1,200 runners. We had at least 13 runners in the race. But more of that later. We go back now to last Wednesday’s 8th Dublin Athletics’ graded meet, this time in the Morton Stadium in Santry and the last of the season. On a windy evening, we had athletes taking part in the 400m and 3000m as well as the mile. In the men’s 400m 2nd race of grade A, Kevin Woods took 3rd place in 52:51, whilst in the C grade race of the same distance John O’Loughlin placed 3rd in 59:84, followed by Frank Halligan in 6th (63:70), one of 3 events he ran in on the night. In the Mile, Garret Dunne took the win in the B race in 4:48.62, followed closely by Michael O’Conor in 2nd place (4:49.85). Frank took on the C grade mile, placing 2nd in 5:05.48, followed by John McAuley in 5th (5:14.14) and Joe McDermott (6th in 5:16.12). We had 3 contestants in the D grade, with newcomer John Healy placing 3rd in 5:20.61, followed by Denis Murphy (6th in 5:46.95) and Paul Kelly (11th in 7:52.27). Finally, Frank took on the 3000m, placing 3rd in 9:55.27. Finally, Frank took on the 3000m, placing 3rd in 9:55.27. On the mountains in the middle of last week, we had a couple of runners in a 9.6km IMRA race in Downshill townland near Delgany in Wicklow. On easy terrain with a 400m climb, Gavan Doherty placed 49th in a field of 158 in a time of 51:06, followed by Berndt Heim (135th in 65:48). On the roads last week, Denis Murphy took part in a 10k in Letterkenny (the Point) in Co. Donegal and in a field of 124, Denis placed 15th and 2nd M50 in a time of 44:57. Neil Brown was our only participant on Sunday in the Indaver 10K (Duleek and district). Neil ran 54:50 for a placing of 141st out of a field of 247. We now come to the DLR Bay 10k which took place on bank holiday Monday in cloudy, windy but warm conditions. The race would not normally be associated with PBs because of its challenges. However, we saw at least one amongst our number. Frank Hague was our lead runner, taking 14th spot in 35:36, followed by Derek Lawlor who came home in 19th in a PB time of 36:29 after a ding dong battle with a Raheny athlete. Our next runner was Damien Fitzgibbon in 49th (40:23) just ahead of Kiera Roche who came home in 50th place overall, 3rd woman finisher behind Michelle Cox and Sarah Baryga who were only 2 seconds apart (38:18 and 38:20). Kiera’s time was 40:25. Luke Davis was also not much further back in 52nd place (40:33). In 76th place came Luke Haran (42:00) and was followed by Tom Dunne (42:24). David long, just getting back, was next in 43:11, followed by Stephen Mulligan (136th in 44:22). In a race he might well have otherwise podiumed in, Kieran Little ran 44:51 to place 148th, pacing a friend to a sub 45 minutes finish. Joe Dunne ran a super 46:15 (192nd), followed by his wife, Olwyn, in 47:27 (234th overall and 24th woman home) and the younger of our two athletes named John Fitzsimons (801st in 59:01). Leo Lundy completed a milestone marathon over the weekend, his 250th. Leo’s race took place in Surrey in England, called the Dark Phoenix and he finished in mid-pack in 6:01:27 in extremely hot conditions (30 degrees plus). As usual, there were some excellent performances in Saturday morning’s parkruns. First finisher places went to Adrienne Jordan in St. Anne’s where she finished 8th overall in a time of 18:33. Lorraine Fitzsimons also ran in the event coming home in 259th overall (77th woman) in 29:49. Derek Lawlor was also a first finisher, in Cabinteely, running 18:30, whilst the feat was emulated in Knocknacarra by both Laura Flannelly (10th overall in 21:40) and by husband Brian (18:41). Gavan Doherty also ran in Cabinteely, placing 6th in 20:36. A podium place went to Aoife Quinn in Fairview, her time of 24:56 good enough to place her 3rd woman, 19th overall. Aoife was joined by Olwyn Dunne who placed not too far behind, 21st overall, 4th woman, in 25:21. Kate Murray ran an excellent 21:59 to take 2nd spot in Marlay (52nd overall), whilst Kris Ryan placed 4th (22nd overall) among the 103 participants in Coomera, Australia. Matt Cranley pushed his buggy round Father Collins to place 5th in 19:48, whilst Tim O’Donnell led a large contingent from the club across the line in Poolbeg in 20:01 to place 6th.Tim was followed by Zalan Kovacs (26th in 22:46), Fiona Bane, 3rd woman (30th overall) in 23:26, Sharon Woods, 5th woman (34th overall) in 23:38, Cliodhna O’Reilly (51st overall, 13th woman, in 25:32), Jennifer Armstrong (80th overall, 26th woman, in 30:33), Don Anderton (86th in 32:42) and Ali May Hannigan (95th overall, 38th woman, in 36:03). We had another athlete take part in the Greenpoint parkrun in South Africa, after Kieran Little a couple of weeks back. Darina Scully joined 717 other runners, placing 103rd overall, 13th woman, in 24:27. Up in Belfast Mairin Shine ran in Ormeau Park, placing 281st overall (112th woman) in 34:25, whilst daughter Lisa took a break from the watching women’s hockey in east London, by running in Panshanger and finishing 127th overall, 24th woman, in 28:24 among a field of 278. Orlaith de Burca took 89th spot overall (18th woman) in 27:11 in Shanganagh, whilst Mairead Cashman headed down to Glengarriff in Cork, placing 63rd overall, 22nd woman, in 31:54. Finally, partners Maria Pertl and Diarmuid Byrne ran together in Griffeen Park. Maria came home in 69th overall (11th woman) in 25:38, followed by Diarmuid (70th in 25:40).
