Couch to Docklands 5K
If you're completely new to running or returning from a long absence then our couch to 5k program is specially tailored for you. Couch to Docklands 5k is a specialized program that we have developed to help people to be able to run a 5K, the Docklands 5K hence the name. This program is aimed at beginners and novice runners but can also be used for runners returning after an absence from running or injury.
You may have heard of couch to 5k before, this is a similar program but gives you instant access to all the benefits that club runners enjoy, including fully qualified coaches with years of personal and professional experience.
The program over the course of 10 weeks will gradually build up your fitness and ability to run a 5K race. The race in particular is the Docklands 5K, which is very suited for beginners and novice runners as it is a flat and even course.
Couch to 5K
What is Couch to 5K, it is a running program that is aimed at complete beginners with very little or no previous running
experience and or runners returning to running after a period of absence or from injury. We operate out of Irishtown Stadium so we are local to Dublin 4, the Dockland area and the inner city. So we are perfectly located for people who work in town or Docklands area and want to come straight after work. Why sit in the traffic when you can come to us and make the most of your time. If you are looking to get fit and started in running or have a little experience already and would like to improve then our program is perfect for you. Why not give it a go!

New to Running
Our beginners program is known as the Couch to Docklands 5K Challenge and it is run every year, normally starting in April. This is the best time to join if you are a beginner because it is specially tailored for beginners and new runners.
In the program we incorporate a Training plan known as the Walk Run method, used by the top Coaches around the world.
Research shows that people who train in a group are more likely stick with it and during our classes, you will run with a group of similarly standard individuals as yourself and you will progress from walking to Jogging to Running during the duration of the program. There is no previous experience needed, so if you are brand new to running this would be a great way to start on your fitness goals. When you stick with a well-planned program like ours, you will get the results and start to feel fitter and healthier.
Already a Runner
We have several options for more advanced runners available. If you feel that you might be already up to a 5K level but would like to join the group. Please contact us and we can advise you on what would be the best level for you.
Current members are welcome. If you are currently a member of Crusaders AC and would like to take part in the Couch to 5K, please contact us on email address below. While the program will be free for current members there may be a small fee associated with running the Docklands 5K.
Coaching
You will receive top level coaching in our classes and all our Coaches are qualified with the Athletics Association of Ireland.
Our Coaches have been running themselves for years and have a wealth of personal and professional knowledge that they can pass on to you. Our qualified Coaches set out the training schedules suitable for your needs and you will also receive on-going support and guidance through out the program.
Our Method
Our method will start you of slowly and over 10 weeks bring your level of running up enough that you can run 5K.
You will progress at your own pace and receive expert advice and coaching from fully AAI qualified coaches. You will be able to ask the coaches any questions you might have on a one on one basis. Gain useful knowledge from our coaches who have years of experience of running themselves. Each participant will receive a training plan specifically tailored to beginners will be used to train the you for the 5K. Giving a clear goal to work towards at the end will help you stay focused and engaged.
Our Classes are open and friendly. They are quite social and you will meet new interesting people. They offer the opportunity to make new acquaintances or to catch-up with friends.
The program uses a training scheduled that involves supervised and non supervised sessions.
The supervised sessions or classes take place on a Thursday Evening starting at 6.45pm
Non supervised sessions can be completed on your own time when it suits you.
They take place in Irishtown Stadium that is not just perfectly located for people coming home from work in the city centre but has all the amenities you would want such as changing rooms, Shower facilities and water stations.
Our classes take place on a fully flood lit running track specially designed for running. Our rates are competitive and everyone who joins our group receives a free technical t-shirt.
After completion of the Couch to 5K our coaches will be able to direct you to the next level of running.
Join the Club
All participants in the Couch to 5K program automatically become members of Crusaders Athletics Club.
Crusaders AC is one of Dublin's largest Athletics Clubs and members avail from a whole host of amenities and benefits.
The membership lasts until the end of the current year and we would encourage the couch to 5K participants to stay on in our Fit 4 Life group in the club.

Indeed Docklands 5k
Docklands 5K
what is it? A 5k run over a flat, fast loop in Dublin's Docklands area.
When you join our couch to 5K program you will be automatically entered into the Docklands 5K.
The Docklands 5K race takes place at the end of the program and the group will run the race together with several Coaches from the program.
Organised by the runners from Crusaders Athletic Club, the Docklands 5k race is held with the help of the generous sponsorship, provided by many companies located in the Docklands and surrounding areas including our principle sponsor Indeed. The Docklands 5k is a non-profit event. All proceeds will be used to improve the facilities of Crusaders AC and to promote sport, health and wellbeing in the community.
