Anxious to avoid the problems that occurred last year in Donabate with the staging of the Dublin Marathon Race Series half marathon, the organisers this year brought the race back to its original venue and spiritual home in the Phoenix Park on Saturday morning with no alterations from its previous course. It’s a hilly, challenging event, but still much loved by its participants as so many of us train on those hills anyway. On a day that was cloudy and cool, but not too windy (which seems to have been the case so far for many of our races this year) and where any rain held off, in other words great racing conditions, we had at least 50 athletes in the race, if not more with some of those who forgot to include their club details in their entries or took someone else’s number. Many of those racing were using the event as preparation and a confidence booster for next month’s Dublin Marathon (for which we have at least 60 runners entered, likely more) as well as other upcoming marathons outside Ireland (Budapest, Chicago, Amsterdam and New York). The field was substantial, with more than 6,700 finishers and we had some outstanding performances, more than half our number breaking 1:40. In training for Budapest in a week or so’s time, Kieran Little ran a super race leading our contingent home in 10th place in a time of 1:14:25. Next came Albin Ingmarsson, preparing for his second marathon, in 13th place just 19 seconds back in 1:14:44. Rob Cross won his age category in 1:16:07 for 15th place, followed by another marathoner, Frank Halligan, who placed in the top 30 (28th in 1:17:27). The next few athletes are also in marathon preparation and they included Stephen O’Kennedy (33rd in 1:17:49), Paul Dempsey (50th in 1:18:52), with yet another PB, Frank Hague (51st in a PB time of 1:18:52), Seamus MacFloinn (81st in 1;20:21), Derek Lawlor (90th in 1:20:39), Tim Francony (116th in 1:21:56), Jonathan Claridge (134th in 1:22:45), Philip Hamilton (228th in 1:26:08), Turlough Bolger (262nd in 1:26:46), Eugene McDonough (286th in 1:27:10), Thomas Clarke (290th in 1:27:02) and Karl Walsh (294th in 1:26:52). Like possibly Zlatko Kulic and Michael Fitzsimons, Eddie Nugent was one of the few not running Dublin, but he was one of those to record a PB in the race (398th in 1:28:55), whilst Zlatko placed 215th in 1:25:46 and Michael came home in 450th in 1:29:38. Another marathoner, Gavan Doherty, was also able to creep under the 1:30 wire, placing 466th in 1:29:10, following Patrick Needham (416th in 1:29:28) on gun time (but ahead of both Patrick and Michael on chiptime), meaning that more than 20 of our runners broke 1:30. Our other men to come home inside 1:40 were Luke Haran (633rd in a PB time of 1:33:04), Brian Scanlan (676th in 1:34:10), Gerald Hoare (902nd in 1:36:58), Gian Piero Allerta (1,003rd in 1:38:37), Ger Whyte (1,020th in 1:38:45) and Brian Grehan (1,043rd in 1:38:22), making a return to competitive running after several years away. Diarmuid Fahey also broke 1:40 (1,731st in 1:34:17) but clearly started out towards the back of the field. Others to run on Saturday included Phelim Murray (1,391st in 1:42:44), Will Stafford (1,410th in 1:41:55), Micheal Killeen (1,618th in 1:45:42), Russell Murphy (2,197th in 1:47:21), Colin Maguire (3,109th in 1:47:51), Joe O’Reilly (4,282nd in 1:59:30), Ian Hennessy (5,236th in 2:09:04), Ertugral Karademir (5,702nd in 2:16:50) and Paul Kelly (6,361st in 2:38:48). In the women’s race, in which we fielded at least 12 competitors, Dee Ni Chearbhaill placed 5th in her age category by finishing in a great time of 1:34:51 (730th overall, 38th woman home). Dee was followed by Niamh Aspell (940th overall, 65th woman, in 1:37:15), Aoife Clarke (1,108th overall, 89th woman, in 1:38:40) and Kate Murray (2,517th overall, 434th woman, in 1:53:44), all of whom are running in Dublin next month. Not on the list below, but which may be of interest to members, is that of Lydia Bigley from Dublin Front Runners who trains with the club and who placed 1,967th overall, 271st woman, in 1:49:45. We also had at least two pacers in the event, Olwyn Dunne and Fiona Shine, both of whom got their charges to the finish in the prescribed times. Several of our runners used the race as part of their long runs. Others to run included Mary Dolan (2,805th overall, 526th woman, in 1:51:45), Carina Davidson (3,549th overall, 841st woman, in 1:50:28), Niamh Quinn (3,572nd overall, 856th woman, in 1:59:50), Maria Esteban (3,583rd overall,in 1:59:33), Jean Devlin (4,415th overall, 1,246th woman, in 2:07:07), Alyssa Kim (4,665th overall, 1,380th woman, in 2:10:16), Iseult Ni Chuinneagain (5,551st overall, 1,930th woman, in 2:24:02), Lucy Collender (5,783rd overall, 2,078th woman, in 2:19:21) and Lorraine Fitzsimons (6,176th overall, 2,325th woman, in 2:29:48). Well done to all! Apparently, the support from the club was, as usual, excellent. It was a weekend of half marathons and we had a runner in the Louisburgh Clew Bay Half marathon in Co. Mayo also on Saturday. Jemma Lyons, who is also preparing for the Dublin marathon placed 3rd in the women's race (22nd overall) in an excellent time of 1:36:57. There were 188 finishers in the race. On Sunday there was a strong quality field for the Charleville Half marathon down in Co. Cork, held under blue skies and near perfect running conditions. John Travers topped the field of 1,276 finishers, arriving home about 20 secs ahead of Mick Clohisey in 1:04:23. In a super-fast race for many runners, Lizzie Lee headed the women’s field, placing 35th overall in 1:15;38 and well ahead of Siobhan O’Doherty in 2nd place. We had two runners in the race. Rob Browne recorded a 3.5 minute improvement, placing 118th in 1:23:23, a super time for him and a great confidence booster for Dublin, whilst Aoife Quinn also completed the course in a personal best time of 1:41:07 (533rd overall, 62nd female finisher). There may have been other events over the weekend in which Crusaders participated but for the time being no results have been found. If anyone wants to bring such a race to the membership’s attention please let us know and the report can be updated. The Saturday parkruns were also well-attended by club members. Podium places went to women’s club captain, Lisa Shine, who placed 7th overall, 1st woman finisher, in 23:33 in Waterstown. Katie McElroy also replicated the feat in Castletown in a time of 21:57 (15th overall), whilst Sarah Lyons placed 5th overall, 2nd female, in River Valley in a time of 22:22.After his exploits in Berlin, Joe Walsh took 2nd place in Brickfields (19:22), whilst Andre Kinneen took 3rd in Porterstown (19:27), followed by Diarmuid Byrne (6th in 21:05) and the ever-improving Maria Pertl (27th overall, 6th woman, in 25:31). In Father Collins another Crusader, Fiona Bane, came home in 3rd (13th overall) in 23:30 whilst Derek Ryan also took a podium position in Poolbeg (3rd in 18:27). Derek was followed by Cliodhna O’Reilly (53rd overall, 9th female, in 25:18), Sharon Woods (54th overall, 10th female, in the same time), Donna Barry (67th overall, 18th woman, in 26:48) and Ciara McElligott (80th overall, 25th woman, in 29:38). Tim O’Donnell was 17th in 19:56 in St. Anne’s, whilst Mairead Cashman finished 66th overall, 21st woman, in 29:41 in Kilkenny. Emma O’Mahony ran 27:07 to place 59th overall, 12th woman, in Cabinteely, whilst Killian Barry ran 19;48 to place 8th in Marlay. Still at home, Aoife Quinn ran 30:29 (197th overall, 56th woman) and Darina Scully ran 31:58 (221st overall, 71st woman) in Malahide. Further afield Donal Foley placed 88th in the 381-strong field in Highbury Fields in North London, his time being 22:40, whilst Aidan Hudner ran 22:12 to place 62nd in the field of 365 in Victoria park in Glasgow. Finally, in Mudgeeraba, somewhere in Australia (!), Kris Ryan took 2nd place (10th overall) among 138 runners in a time of 22:09. Next up next weekend is the Rathfarnham 5k in which we will have at least 30 participants. Dublin Race Series Half marathon (6707) Overall place Name Cat. The most impressive of any of the PBs on the day was that of Vinnie McGuinness who improved on his time by 9 minutes, coming home with negative splits in a time of 2:30:59 (likely the 2nd fastest time by a Crusader in a marathon in recent memory). Vinnie was the 113th fastest man across the line, 125th overall and 22nd in his age category. There were other PBs emerging from negative splits too, for others including at least Michael O'Conor (2:52:32), Joe Walsh (2:53:45) and Miriam Logan (3:59:16), whilst Andrea Talpo ran an even split (2:56:53). There were nearly 28,500 finishers in the event on a warm day (with temperatures starting at around 15 degrees and rising to 23 degrees at least) with a slight breeze in places. As everyone knows, the course is generally flat, with a couple of bridges but it is a little twisty in places, particularly on the many roundabouts. Thankfully, there were continuous blue marks to follow for the racing line, which most of us adhered to. One of the few negatives in the race (as it was otherwise well-organised, the music great everywhere and the Erdingers at the end were most welcome) was the fact that the frequent water stations gave out refreshments in cups, rather than bottles. There was carnage with loads of people stopping and discarding the cups at their feet (as they were difficult to throw far). The water stops alone could have added several minutes to runners' times the further down the field you were at the time. We brought along with us at least 10 supporters, including Richie MacLiam who epically drove 7 hours from Luxembourg to cheer us on, who were everywhere on the course. Amy McGuinness produced some memorable individual motivational posters which she and Michael Kiely ensured were visible whenever the relevant runner went by. A phenomenal effort! Indeed we had great support everywhere as we were told by the race announcer at the start that there were over 700 Irish runners in the field. Vinnie was followed home by Ciaran Diviney in 2:37:58 (placing among the top 250 men and 21st in his age category) and by Ger Forde who also recorded a PB time of 2:41:23. John Mulvihill found the going tough, but still put in a useful 2:44:40, whilst he was followed by Jason Kehoe in his first marathon recording a great time of 2:4915. Behind Jason came Mike O’Conor, running only his 2nd marathon, and he recorded a super PB time of 2:52:32, a significant improvement over his previous result. Joe Walsh was next in a PB time of 2:53:45, another man to lower his time by a decent margin, and he was followed by Andrea Talpo who amazingly broke 3 hours for the first time in 2:56:53, but also only weeks after recording 3:15 in the Copenhagen Ironman. Members may remember Liam Fergus who moved up to Dundalk and joined Northeast Runners. He also ran with us on the day and recorded a PB of 2:58:22. Next across the line was Will Owens in 3:07:32, followed by Enda Currid (3:12:04) and James Cottle (3:16:28) who had a tough 2nd half to the race after being more or less on track for a time closer to 3 hours at the halfway point, suffering from a dodgy stomach but receiving little sympathy from the organisers at the finish, denying him the use of facilities that were available only to members of staff. A lesson for the future! At least James had the consolation of placing in the top 25 in his age category out of more than 1200 finishers. Alma Hanevy was next in 3:20:21, in some pain from about 22k from a flair-up of plantar fasciitis. It’s a credit to her resilience that she was able to finish the race and in a decent time. Behind Alma came Joe “Super Joe” Dunne, running unleashed from his usual pacing duties in a marathon for the first time and his first competitive marathon since his cardiac arrest a few years back. Joe’s time of 3:35:53 was excellent, given that he still has to monitor carefully his heart rate. Liz Nixon was next, in 3:46:26 having experienced some difficulty even before the race began, after a fall that left her bruised and bloodied in places. Joe’s wife, Olwyn, was the next Crusader across the line, finishing with her usual smile in 3:47:03, to be followed by two more runners with PBs: Maria Kennedy ran 3:55:54 and Miriam Logan pushed hard, but felt good, to finish in 3:59:16. Dave Cuddy, our Athlone exile, only managed a long run of 12 miles in training as his preparation were curtailed by sickness, but still he managed to get round in 4:01:15, another demonstration of great resilience. Finally, Aisling O’Connor was only a couple of minutes off a PB in 4:12:58, her fastest run in 10 years. Some truly excellent results and great to have everyone finish in times below 4:15. Also, there’s no such thing as a bad marathon if you finish (the wise words of Anne Curley from Donore who ran 3:15 and who joined us for the post-race celebrations). Naturally, we enjoyed the post-race celebrations and some of us are looking forward to replicating the whole experience in Dublin in 6 weeks’ time! Elsewhere over the weekend, there was a great result for Kris Ryan, our Australian exile, who recorded a win in the Brisbane track Ultra, with a distance of 152.94k in 24 hours. Closer to home, another marathon was run by Leo Lundy over the weekend (having run Dundalk the previous weekend in 5:27). This was the EOI Bellewstown marathon which Leo completed in 5:25. Around the country, there was a major success for Anna Reddin in the Cork women’s mini marathon (6K), where she placed 2nd in 21:29 to Michelle Finn (20:48). The field was over 5,800, so a major achievement. Tim O’Donnell took part in the challenging Ringaskiddy 10k, which measured closer to 10.6k, coming home in 8th place in a time of 46:11 and a field of nearly 60 runners. Donal Foley placed 18th in the 110-strong field in Castleknock, the St. Brigid’s 5k. His time was a PB in 20:35, but he felt that the course may have measured as much as 170m short (confirmed by others). Elsewhere, Barry McGuirke acquired major bragging rights among fellow chartered surveyors by winning the SCSI 5k over the weekend in a time of 19:51. The field was 8o strong. Another excellent result came from Bob Lyne who competed in the World masters in Malaga last week. Having been disqualified in his first event of the meet (the 50k walk), his first DQ in an event notorious for such things, he managed to take 28th place in the 20K walk in 2:27. The parkruns as usual turned up some interesting results. Kate Murray (8th overall) was first finisher in Sligo in a time of 22:31, as was Derek Lawler (18:02) in Poolbeg. Derek was followed by Zlatko Kulic (5th in 19:19), Simon Kenny (14th in 20:33), Eoin McQuaid (20th in 21:21), Fiona Bane (2nd woman, 34th overall, in 22:47), John McQuaid (45th in 24:23), Sharon Woods (51st overall, 7th woman, in 24:53), Cliodhna O’Reilly (55th overall, 10th woman, in 25:34) and Ciara McElligott (82nd overall, 25th woman, in 30:07). Maria Pertl distinguished herself likewise in the inaugural parkrun in Tyrrelstown, placing 2nd (33rd overall) in 26:37. Maria was followed by Diarmuid Byrne (34th in 26:38) and Darina Scully (4th woman, 38th overall, in 27:32). Other podium places went to Matt Cranley in Father Collins (2nd in 19:39) and to Lisa Shine in the modest field in Darndale (2nd woman, 6th overall, in 34:07). Mairead Cashman placed 7th (34th overall) in 30:44 in Brickfields, whilst Neil Brown placed 146th in Marlay in 24:28. Aidan Hudner ran with 400 other runners in Glasgow, placing 73rd in 22:06. Aoife Quinn came across the line in Corkagh in 72nd place overall, 24th woman, in 28:55, whilst Janet McManus and Orlaith de Burca ran in Shanganagh. Janet placed 72nd overall, 10th woman, in 25:32, whilst Orlaith was 85th overall, 19th woman, in 27:20. Finally, Olwyn and Joe Dunne prepared for the Berlin marathon with a run in Hasenheide. Not only did we have super participation on the stewarding side with over 100 volunteers, for which many thanks on behalf of the club, but the size of the club now being what it is, we had at least 24 athletes running in the event for their employers. We probably had many more even, but it’s difficult to find our runners without club identification to their names, particularly after the effort of scouring the first 2,000. At 4,413 finishers, the race had a field 4 times the size of our own race, the Docklands 5k, but perhaps because of the weather conditions, more likely perhaps because of the twisty nature of the course, with its new detour off Cardiff Lane and behind the Maldron Hotel, it probably is not as fast and less of a PB potential than ours, its winner, Conor Dooney closer to 16 minutes than 15 whereas the Docklands regularly turns out winners in under 15 minutes. The volume of runners would not have helped either, but the weather did its bit, with a huge cloudburst just as runners were waiting for the roads to be closed and the gun to fire. Runners and stewards alike were totally drenched on a night that was relatively cool. Be that as it may, we saw some excellent results among our contingent of runners. 2 marathoners Michael O’Conor (Berlin-bound for his first) trailed Kieran Little around the course until the last straight, coming through in the final 400m to take the runner in training for Budapest and finish in 10th place in a time of 16:33. Kieran came home two places later in 16:36. Michael helped his BOI mixed team take gold, whilst Fearghal O’Hare, who placed 15th in 16:43, helped his mixed team from NTMA take silver. Adam Flanagan, in training for Dublin, was next in 35th in 17:12, followed by Joe McDermott (49th in 17:33). Peter O’Toole took 60th in 17:44, followed by Joe Walsh (a Berlin marathoner), whose BOI mixed team came 4th (70th in 17:52), Andrew Kinneen (88th in 18:15), Rob Browne (106th in 18:30) and Enda Currid (108th in 18:31), both in marathon training, with Rob preparing for Dublin and Enda for Berlin. John Thuillier (151st in 19:00) was followed by Barry O’Mahony (157th in 19:03), Barry McGuirk (161st in 19:06), Daniel Lowe (191st in 19:18), Tomas Mahony (197th in 19:19) and David Timoney (197th in 19:51), all finishing in the top 200 and under 20 minutes, great times and representing two-thirds of our contingent. Eanna Farrell just finished outside 20 minutes in 20:10 (349th) and he was followed by Tom Dunne (365th in 20:14). Gill Earley, our first female runner, was next in 811th in 22:04, followed by mother-to-be Amy McGuinness running a great 22:50 (1044th). Amy was followed by Ger Whyte (1440th in 23:53), Sharon Woods (1519th in 24:06), Aisling Dilworth (1806th in 24:50) and Aoife Quinn (1947th in 25:11). If anyone has been missed, please let us know. Earlier in the week, members of the Shine family took part in the Raheny Shamrock-organised Jim Wall Memorial Handicap two mile race. In a field of 74 runners with a strong gender mix, Fiona placed 26th overall, 11th female finisher, in 19:34 and Lisa placed 55th overall, 24th woman, in 20:19. Their sister, Anna, placed in between in 32nd place overall, 13th female, in 19:40. The next races on which to report were on Saturday. In the inaugural Ratoath half marathon Kieran Little showed that he had recovered well from the Grant Thornton by placing 2nd in a time of 1:15:16, less than 30 seconds behind the winner. In a field of 660 runners, Kieran was joined by Mick Smyth (another marathoner in training) who placed 13th in a super time of 1:22:17 and by Sean Smith (63rd in 1:31:26). Meanwhile, we had a winner in the Lakes Half marathon in Blessington Co. Wicklow. Triona Quill (again, a marathoner in training) placed 22nd overall and first female in 1:41:00 in a field of 108. In the same race Luke Davis took 9th spot in 1:30:30. The event is better known for its 10k which had a larger field closer to 300. In that race Stephen O’Kennedy took 16th place in 36:46. The last “road” race of Saturday was the West Waterford Greenway half marathon, which, as one can guess, took place on the Greenway itself (in wet conditions). Ian Hennessy, in a welcome return to racing, joined 600 other runners and placed 446th in 2:05:22. Then, on Sunday, the results are in for the final of the Kia Race Series that took place in Mondello Park on the racing circuit there. The 10k race had a quality field, but was unsurprisingly won by Hiko Tonosa in 30:16 and Kerry O’Flaherty (who may have won each of the races in the series) in 34:34. Frank Halligan distinguished himself with a 9th place finish in 34:28 (quite possibly a PB). Frank was joined in the field exceeding 180 runners by Tom Dunne (36th in 42:05), Russell Murphy (67th in 48:25) and Fiona Bane (68th overall, 13th woman finisher, in 48:31). We even had a runner heading to Berlin next week who ran in the Great North Run in Newcastle and Sunderland on Sunday. Aisling O'Connor ran 2:05:26, to place inside the top 11,000. The weather clearly had an impact on the turnout for Saturday morning’s parkruns and numbers were in general lower than of late. Still we had decent numbers considering. We had first finishers (Katie McElroy and Matt Cranley) in two parkruns. In Castletown Katie placed 9th overall in 21:51, whilst Matt ran 18:46 (likely without the buggy) in Father Collins. Podium places went to Paul Flynn (2nd in Kilkenny in 19:00), Aoife Quinn (3rd woman, 12th overall, in 24:25, in Tolka Valley) and Barry O’Mahony (2nd in 19:29). Barry was joined in Cabinteely by his wife Emma who placed 55th overall, 9th woman, in 26:57. In Poolbeg, Zlatko Kulic also took a podium place coming home in 3rd in 19:15. Zlatko was followed by Kenan Furlong (working his way back to fitness (5th in 19:33)), Patrick Carthy (10th in 20:19), Zalan Kovacs (26th in 21:58), Olwyn Dunne (getting ready for Berlin) (36th overall, 5th woman, in 24:20), Cliodhna O’Reilly (44th overall, 8th woman, in 26:13), Jennifer Armstrong (67th overall, 23rd woman, in 29:48), Sharon Woods (69th overall, 25th woman, pacing for the 30 minute runners, in 29:58), Mairin Shine (78th overall, 33rd woman, in 35:33) and by Fiona Bane who picked up the stragglers as “tail runner”. John McAuley ran well in Marlay to place 5th in 18:24, whilst Brian Scanlan took 16th spot in Malahide (20:29). Leo Lundy came home in 26th in Fairview in 27:30, whilst, in St. Anne’s, Colm Kernan ran 22:10 to place 43rd, followed by Lorraine Fitzsimons (Dublin-bound) who ran 28:12 to place 179th overall (38th woman). Lisa Shine ran in Ballincollig to take 85th place overall (13th woman) in 26:37. Further afield, Kris Ryan was a tail runner this week in the Surfers Paradise parkrun in Australia, whilst Mari Hansen ran in Oxford placing 227th overall, 48th woman, in 27:28 in a field exceeding 400 runners. It was the first running there of a well-established race that incorporates the County Dublin 10 mile championships. Up to now the race has been run in the Phoenix Park and was moved to its new location because of the Pope’s visit last week and the fact that much of the paraphernalia around the middle of the park has yet to be dismantled. It remains to be seen whether the move is permanent or temporary and certainly the new course, although much flatter than the park, has its challenges in places. It is basically the old Fingal 10k course for the Race Series (since moved to Clondalkin) with an extra 4k loop added on, which included a few additional undulations. One runner described the course as increasing in climbs finished by a downhill to a slight uphill drag at the end. In any event, conditions were relatively hot for the event which started at 9:30 in the morning. In a field of nearly 2,800 finishers we had at least 21 runners, several of whom are in autumn marathon training mode. It was a good test for them. First male Crusader across the line was Paul Dempsey who is in training for New York and who has been flying this year. Paul placed 52nd in 1:00:54 and he was followed by Frank Hague who came home in 58th spot in 1:01:08. Seamus MacFloinn, in training for the DCM, was next in 89th in 1:02:40 and to round out the top 100, Peter O’Toole came home in that position in 1:03:38. Karl Walsh, who must have started relatively far back as usual, finished in 1:02:50 (104th) whilst Seamus Moore, in training for Berlin, did not particularly enjoy his outing, taking 124th place in 1:05:00. Seamus is carrying a bit of an Achilles injury right now, so it was a decent finish in the circumstances. Eddie Nugent was next (179th in 1:07:08), followed by newcomer Turlough Bolger (196th in 1:06:26) just sneaking into the top 200. Patrick Needham was our next finisher (255th in 1:10:11), followed by Brian Scanlan in his 2nd event of the weekend (288th in 1:11:06), Phelim Murray (384th in 1:13:25) still running off a hamstring injury, Micheal Killeen, who like Karl must have started far down the field (407th in 1:11:52), Barry McGuirk (409th in 1:13:52), Denis Murphy (588th in 1:16:33), Robbie Moore (654th in 1:17:45) and Colin Maguire (867th in 1:21:31). Dee Ni Chearbhaill was our first woman home. It is likely that Dee has succeeded in picking up an age group medal (possibly gold) in the Dublin championships by running 1:13:21, placing 378th overall, 17th female and at 3rd in her age category (the first two spots appearing to be non-club runners). Dee was followed by Aoife Quinn (587th overall, 54th female, in 1:16:32), Sarah Lyons (1,047th overall, 168th female, in 1:23:25), Jean Devlin (2,367th overall, 859th female, in 1:46:10) and Fiona Lane (2,626th overall, 1,046th female, in 1:58:23). Once we get input on the Dublin championships the report will be updated. There was a BHAA race on Saturday, in which Donatas Jocius took part. It was the Pfizer 5k. A modest field of 57 runners participated and Donatas took 6th place in an excellent 18:05. He then went on to run in a tiny LIDL 6k race on Sunday, beating his 8 other colleagues in a time of 21:57. Also, on Saturday, Carina Davidson took part in the Dingle Half marathon. Carina placed 362nd overall in a field of over 2,000 runners and 90th female home in a time of 1:51:59. Further afield, Warren Sword took part in the Courmeyeur to Chamonix 101km race, which is part of the Ultra Trail de Mont Blanc (the famous UTMB). Starting out on Friday morning at 9 am, Warren covered the distance in 18:39:04, finishing at 3:41 am on Saturday (a chiptime of 18:39:04), placing 349th out of 1,622 runners and, as he said, celebrating his birthday in style. One result we missed last week was that of one of our Australian exiles, Jerome Dupuy. Jerome ran in the Sydney half marathon last weekend running a time of 1:14:29. We also missed at least 3 results for Leo, who ran back-to back ultras during the previous week. His totals are climbing significantly! Finally, we come to the parkruns and, as usual, we had plenty of runners appearing. In Marlay, in an event where the first finisher the previous week (who had not been highlighted) was Stephen O’Kennedy in 18:52, John McAuley ran extremely well to take 2nd in 18:22. He was followed by Kate Murray (51st overall, 4th female, in 21:44). Luke Davis placed 3rd in Lees Road in Ennis Co. Clare, in a time of 19:33. Kris Ryan took first place (3rd overall in 23:00) in a park run in Australia (Surfers Paradise with a field of 33), whilst Brian Scanlan was also a first finisher in River Valley (21:40).
