About Us

Crusaders Athletic Club, located in Irishtown Stadium, is one of Ireland’s premier athletics clubs.

Founded in 1942, the club has enjoyed a rich history in athletic development and success in its distinctive red and white colours..

The ‘Cru’ caters to athletes in a variety of disciplines from juvenile to veteran, novice to elite level, and everything in between.

The club welcomes members who wish to be active and train at a level appropriate to their fitness and ambition.who wish to be active and train at a level appropriate to their fitness and ambition.

Club members can train and compete all year round with cross-country, road running, mountain running as well as indoor and outdoor track & field athletics.
The club meet and train mainly in Irishtown stadium, but we also make good use of the parkland and Sandymount strand nearby (see training for more info).

Crusaders foster and encourage young athletes in an active and growing Junior section; the ‘Ju-Cru’ (see Junior Cru for more details).

The senior section of the club is comprised of casual and competitive Crusaders.

As well as recreational runners, there are developmental and elite athletes running in the red and white.
The club enjoys regular success with numerous national champions and league titles to its credit.

Notably, Crusaders have produced a number of Olympians, the first being the legendary Ronnie Delaney who won 1,500m Gold at the Melbourne 1956 Olympics.

Crusaders also know how to have fun off the track. The club is a good way to meet other athletes and has an active social scene organising club evenings and table quizzes.

Road

Picture

Road running has become increasingly popular around the country.

Barely a weekend goes by without a 5k or a 10k on offer, not to mention the many mid-week evening time races.

There has never been a better time to be involved in road running, and there’s no better way to get involved than with Crusaders Athletics Club.

Whether you’re a beginner looking to get started, would like to improve, or just add a bit more structure to your running, joining Crusaders Athletics Club should be your next step.

cross country

Picture
Picture
One of the oldest and possibly toughest sporting challenges is cross country running.

A foot race between two points over mixed terrain and changeable weather conditions, cross
country running demands a stern resolve and firm commitment.

If that sounds appealing then cross country running may be the sport for you.

The cross country season spans from September to March with races to suit all abilities from beginner to international standard.

Picture

Whether you’re a seasoned cross country runner or looking for a new challenge, cross country running is an ideal way to add an alternative to your aerobic training.

Additionally, cross country is an excellent way of laying a good fitness base for many other sports in the winter.

mountain running

Fed up pounding on the pavements? Looking for a change of scenery? Well, then mountain running may be the sport for you.

With refreshing trails and mountain races from the Dublin mountains and beautiful forests of Wicklow to the highest peaks of Ireland and beyond.

Mountain running offers a unique and exhilarating experience for the adventurer in you.

The Women's Meet and Train League has been going for the past 25 years and it's objective is to offer accessible races for old, new and recycled runners, of the female persuasion at a nominal cost.

In recent times Crusaders have had at least two teams participating in these events and we have gone from strength to strength, and it has proving to be very popular with the ladies.

Picture
Picture
One of the key areas of the meet and train is to encourage women of all ages and fitness levels.

From complete novice to seasoned veterans to take part in physical activity in a relaxed and friendly environment

It is a fantastic, friendly and fun opportunity to meet and compete against fellow women from other clubs

Picture
We are always looking for club members to join us and represent Crusaders as part of our team.

All women are always welcome to run. We promise a social and highly enjoyable run, with cakes, tea and coffee after with a lot of chat.

Juveniles
Picture
Picture
Crusaders welcomes children of all abilities who wish to participate in athletics.

Priority will be given to those children preparing for competition.

training times

Please go HERE for Training Times
Picture
All training is outdoors, we have no indoor facilities so appropriate clothing should be worn. In winter and bad weather children should have a warm tracksuit and rain jacket.

We do not normally cancel for bad weather except for snow and extreme frost. Please do not send your child down when it is frosty as the track freezes and is unusable.
Picture
Subscriptions are paid annually on a calendar year basis, see website for rates (www.crusadersac.org). The subscription includes insurance and registration with Athletics Ireland.

Due to the large numbers of current juvenile members, a shortage of coaches, we currently have a waiting list. For NEW juvenile membership enquiries please contact [email protected]

Picture
Enjoyment is at the center of our coaching philosophy. Children are expected to abide by the normal rules of good behavior.

Where a child is being disruptive we will politely ask the behaviors to change and if this is not forthcoming we will talk to the parent/guardian.

If there is persistent disruption your child will be asked to stay away from the club for some weeks after consultation with you.
