It has been a club tradition that when Crusaders enter teams in competitions run by Dublin Athletic Board, Leinster Athletics and the governing body, Athletics Ireland, that the club paid the team entry fee.
However, during the recent past, the above three athletic bodies have tended to outsource the entry and results service for many of their adult competitions. (Juvenile competitions have not been similarly affected.) The result is that entry fees for adult competitions have increased to such a degree that it is no longer financially viable for the club to continue paying for team entries.
Allied to this situation, our finances are in a recovery phase. This is because our cash reserves are largely depleted having been invested in our new club house, the running costs of same are high, club membership has dropped during the Covid crisis and our main fund raiser, the Docklands 5k race, has been cancelled twice (again due to Covid).
The Management Committee considered this situation at their January meeting and decided to continue paying for team competitions BUT only where there is a selection process. Three competitions for 2022 have been identified as fulfilling this criterion i.e. The National Outdoor Leagues, The National Road Relays and the 4 x 100 - 4 x 400 relays in the National Track and Field Championships.
For all other team events, we will therefore be requesting participants for those competitions to contribute to the entry costs. We will be reviewing this situation in early 2023 and we thank you for your understanding.
